Mankind is getting lifts, almost every other century, sometimes the hibernation period is too long, that is what it seems looking back at the accounts. We always talk about utopian models, what if, If that.., Where things…, there we would…., and so on. The optimization process is already in process, but the biggest obstacle to the optimization remains the same through history of time- that we have a life to live and its difficult to unlearn.
Biases are caused by thought/information limitations. What we know, what we learn, how we decide is based on what we think is the best, sometimes even taking decisions which are moreWrong than the best decision that can actually be derived from the information that is available to the brain. That is the human factor, to do and to chose what necesarily might not be the best for ourselves at a point of time.
Because it’s all about decision making in the end, and decisions are based on information, larger the information, better would be the decisions. Critics might argue that the level of problems at different levels of solutions are different, and may not mitigate the problems at all. For eg; If we think that going into the space is ultimate goal of our life and it is going to serve us some “Continuous Orgasm”, but it turns out, we struggle to cope up with living on the moon.
It seems we are objective sometimes, say few times in a day/month/year, but reproducing is a problem. Aren’t you taking out the human element out of humans? was what my sister asked me. I had thought about it, but her saying it actually made the question sound more serious than i thought it to be. Then i thought yes, may be will, may be the optimization is just too far, but again, is it again a bias? Isn’t wanting to retain human feelings, emotions over what will be “orgasmic” , Un-utilitarianism” ? May be the actual fantasy design will demand more than just utility, We might need a holistic system which encapsulates both the “Human element” as well as the powers to perform according to maximum utility(that too decided based on a purely logical scheme).
We might need plug-in and plug-out kind of system which can seamlessly integrate with our brain. Brain can use the information present to take decisions. Obviously it is assumed that the extra information-plug is verified and will actually provide only the necessary information. Moreover, We will have a domain of plugins which will be used according to need(determined by the brain itself, assumed that is possible with natural intelligence). Obviously, there wont be anything to know, it would be then up-to the natural brain to assemble the information and use it in best possible manner. No longer will the thought process be limited because we don’t “know” something. Just to clear, an example, Say if we you’re a young entrepreneur, you will have to take lot of decisions at various times, deeper, lets say you need to decide how to manage your ego once the company seems to be doing okay, your brain quickly deciphers that you need information related to this and by correlating/calculating the utility based on the Cause-effects scenarios that were presented by the “information-plug”, the brain comes up with the answer which you can apply.
What i have fantasized so far is just one-way traffic. Imagine devising a device which can retain our thoughts, experiences, decisions, etc, and can store the information which can work in a need based retrieval fashion. In such a system, we would be capable of limiting, chosing and shifting between various states which are again formed by us.
Im may be nth person who has these thoughts. The technology imagined in Matrix(movie) might be enough for delivering the fanstasy system that i talked about. But matrix was more of a fantasy inside a fantasy (ofcourse it was a movie), but it is very very interesting one at that. It actually goes one step further and presents what can happen if we are actually controlled by machines which become more powerful and intelligent. Im not a huge fan of Matrix series, but i coud not think of a better example.
